Jose Maria Garcia Meyer-Dohner

Mr. Garcia Meyer-Dohner has developed his whole career at BBVA Group, starting in 1975. During this time he has had several responsibilities in different business areas, in Spain, Mexico and the US.
During his first 13 years with BBVA Group he gained experience in lending and leasing companies, managing businesses in three Regions of Spain (North, South and North-east).
From 1988 to 1994 he worked in Retail Banking, concentrating in Marketing and Sales, and was responsible for two regions in the North-West of Spain.
In 1994 Mr. Garcia Meyer-Döhner was assigned to manage the Construction Loans Division and later was put in charge of the combined Mortgage Businesses of BBV. In 1999 he was elected Manager of the Consumer Lending and Mortgage areas.
At the end of 1999 Mr. Garcia Meyer-Döhner was transferred to Mexico as President of Retail Banking in BBV Probursa Mexico. In 2000, he was named EVP in charge of the Retail Business and Marketing areas at BBVA Bancomer, the new bank created by the merger of BBVA Probursa, Banca Promex and Bancomer. He was in charge of the 2,200 branch network and reporting to the Retail Banking, the Private Banking, and the Marketing areas (Contact Center, Internet, Deposits and Consumer Lending, Mortgage and Credit Cards, Market Research and Advertising). Additionally, Mr. Garcia Meyer was responsible of the Innovation Development Department.
BBVA Bancomer is currently the financial leader in Mexico. BBVA Bancomer’s US subsidiaries eventually were transferred under his supervision, including Bancomer Transfer Services and its affiliates and the BBVA Bancomer Agency in Houston, Texas.
In September 2004, Mr. Garcia Meyer-Döhner was given the task of developing the first domestic banking operation of BBVA in the US.
In December 2005, BBVA USA became one of the five principal Business Areas of the BBVA Group. As the first head of this Business Area, Mr. Garcia Meyer-Döhner was appointed as a member of the Executive Committee of BBVA Group, reporting directly to the President and COO of BBVA.
Mr. Garcia Meyer-Döhner has an MBA from EUROFORUM-Universidad Complutense of Madrid and MDI (his MBA degree specialized in Real Estate and Construction) from Universidad Politecnica of Madrid. He is married and has four daughters.
